Excellent product and professional looking

This was the last of 4 Modern Mate Furniture Items that I have assembled and perhaps the lowest quality in terms of the materials supplied. The appearance is not bad, now that it is assembled, but there isn' a gram of real wood in this thing, only particle board coated in either black plastic or fake "veneer" that does not appear to be wood-based, and which is as convincing as low end laminate or vinyl flooring.

There is another, slightly larger and a bit more complicated and expensive bookcase sold by this vendor which I have also reviewed. Of the two, this one is a bit easier and faster to assemble, both because it is not as complicated (less drawers), plus there is minimal pre-assembly, basically the drawer glides are already assembled so that you don't have to do this. I did not say that this bookcase is easy and fast to assemble; it is NOT, just it might take an hour or two less than the other, slightly larger and more expensive one.

Expect to spend the better part of a day assembling this, assuming that you are handy. If you are not handy, don't take this project on unless you have a lot of patience and tolerance for frustration.

The assembled product looks better than the quality of materials contained within it, and it is relatively sturdy. I would not put this into a public place in my home such as a living room; it is too cheap looking unless you don't care. I would also avoid this product if you can't put it somewhere that it will be treated gently; if this thing gets dinged up it is not going to look good with all the punctures through the plastic coatings. This is not suitable for commercial use.

Who should buy this? Someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on a bookcase but who wants something that looks acceptable, who has time to assemble it, who isn't too picky about furniture quality, preferably to be used in a non-public are of the home. The slightly bigger and more complicated version costs more but is a little bit nicer.

Came with tons of pieces. Lovely end result. Hard to build alone may require two at least two people. The drawers and bottom cabinets are a little tight on space but just enough for storage. Fits more than you think. Building manual was a little confusing.

I ordered 3 of theses to line the back wall of my home office for more storage. They’ve held up well and look very nice.

Assembly for each one took about 2 hours, so I built one a day over Christmas break. Assembly wasn’t too hard, the instructions were clear.

Once they were available, we ordered the desk, two tall bookshelves and the 60” wide bookshelf.
Aesthetically speaking, we LOVE them. Gorgeous set.
I shopped for months for a black adjustable height desk set like this and options are SLIM. It seems like everyone is going for the white and natural wood look these days, but being as I wanted this to suit both my husband and I, I wanted to go with dark furniture.
Assembly was an absolute nightmare.
For all pieces, it was legitimately a 3-4 day job with my husband and 18 year old son both (granted my husband had to take apart a few pieces my son wrongly assembled a time or two because the instructions are difficult).
It was tedious enough that my husband ordered an allen head drill bit set (which unfortunately didn’t arrive until after they were done).
So for anyone purchasing, I would HIGHLY recommend ordering a set of those drill bits along with these to preserve your sanity and save you a LOT of time.
My husband also said to definitely take your time to ensure pieces are turned EXACTLY as pictured because the details in the pictures are small and difficult to see and that causes a lot of incorrect assembly.
All in all, we’re very happy with it now that it’s assembled. 😆
The only reason for taking a star off is the instructions. I definitely think they need to re-do those with larger pictures of the details for a smoother assembly.
